Education Research

Established in 1999, the CAPSI Research and Evaluation Group has conducted several research and evaluation projects about science learning, assessment, classroom practice, and students' career aspirations,. Funding for the research has come from the National Science Foundation (NSF), National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), and the S. D. Bechtel, Jr. Foundation, The group's research and evaluation projects have included:

 

  • Factors in the Sustainability of Elementary Hands-On Inquiry Science Programs
  • What Students Learn about Scientific Inquiry in Hands-On and Textbook-Based Programs
  • Using Elementary Science Notebooks to Enhance Student Understanding and Writing in Science
  • Middle and High School Students' Interest in Science Majors and Careers
  • Elementary Students' Interest, Attitudes and Experiences in Science
  • Evaluation of Reading, Writing and Rings, a literacy and science curriculum unit developed by JPL/NASA as educational outreach for the Huygens-Cassini Mission to Saturn
